DEVELOP

Develop a comprehensive certification methodology and procedure to assess the integration of GNSS and IMU technologies for train positioning within train control systems. This process must ensure adherence to the ERTMS/ETCS standard, specifically related to SIL-4 signalling systems and their prospective advancements. The objective includes defining and conducting a series of evaluations and validations to guarantee the reliability, accuracy, and integrity of the train positioning systems in the context of ERTMS/ETCS.

DESIGN

Design and develop a Hybrid Virtualized Testing Certification Environment (HyVICE) along with the necessary facilities and tools. The HyVICE Environment should be able to perform the tests specified in Objective 1, offering realistic and dependable simulations of real-world effects within the framework of ERTMS/ETCS.

ESTABLISH

Establish and manage a comprehensive repository of diverse scenarios and test patterns. This resource will be utilised to perform the evaluations specified in Objective 1, thereby ensuring a rigorous assessment of the performance of train control systems under varying conditions.

DEPLOY

Deploy the HyVICE system at a dedicated rail test circuit, setting up the required infrastructure to conduct tests that integrate real and synthetic data to simulate various operational scenarios.

REPRODUCE

Reproduce at ERTMS lab the set of test scenarios previously run at rail test circuit and perform a validation of the lab test results based on the comparison against onsite tests.

DEVELOP

Develop a comprehensive system designed to generate standardized test patterns and documentation necessary for the certification of localization and positioning systems. This system will include raw data, radio frequency samples, high-fidelity simulation data, IMU data, and Augmentation network data, addressing the varied requirements of manufacturers seeking product certification.
A key focus is on assessing the utilization of a multi-modal augmentation network, aligning with Rail, Automotive, and Maritime common user needs to achieve an economy of scale. The certification process will emphasize GNSS continuity, often overlooked in rail and road transport, despite being the most demanding GNSS requirement in aviation. To facilitate this, a liaison will be established with the RTCM SC 134 Standardization Group, the Europe’s Rail System Pillar, and the R2DATO project funded by Europe’s Rail.
